I'm Alive.

Have I ever mentioned my perfectionist tendencies here on the blog? Even if I haven't, maybe you've noticed, or you know me well enough to know that I can't do anything half-assed or half-way. Honestly, I usually won't even start something unless I think that I'm going to do well at it.

What does this have to do with blogging?

I've thought about sitting down to write about a dozen times in the last month, but I just haven't made it happen. Probably because I know that I simply won't have time to make the post awesome.

I've gotten quite a few sweet emails and encouraging tweets from blog friends who say that they just want to hear from me. You guys make my day.

So, here I am :) Life lately has been a whirlwind. It's hard to believe that I've been back in the states for over two months and working for 6 weeks. I'm so lucky to be working at a job I LIKE!

Isn't my office set-up ridiculous? The photos are kinda crummy, but you get the idea. My work laptop is essentially floating above the desk! And having that extra monitor space is amazing.

It's been a big adjustment getting used to working fulltime again, after two years of not. I completely forgot how working sort of takes over your week days. In fact, I made you a little pie chart of a typical work day.

That "everything else" little chunk is where blogging goes. And if I can't make that piece any larger then I've decided that I need to lower my expectations of what a perfect post looks like here at Priceless Adventure. The truth is that writing is good for my soul, and if that means shorter 30 minute posts then that is what I need to do.

Thanks for sticking with me while I figure this whole thing out!

Any tips on managing a full-time job + blogging?

Hey gal! I've been thinking of you! But I knew exactly what you must be going through. Blogging AND working full time is tough! I'd say blogging can easily take up the time of a part time job or more. What I have to do is get all my blogging done on the weekends. I've found I just don't have the energy (or the light for good photos) after work. You'll find a rhythm. Great to hear from you. And yes, the double monitor is a great set-up, I have that at my job and love it!

I usually carve out time for blogging in the morning while I watch the news/drink my coffee. On days that I over sleep, I try to write during my lunch break. You'll find a time that works for you once you get in the swing of things!

Yay, you're back!

I used to plan all my blog posts and sometimes draft them at work... lol

Lol I love that you made a pie chart of your day. That goes above and beyond in my book! I know exactly what you mean about getting used to working full time again. It took me a while to get used to it after unemployment! So glad to have you back!

Welcome back! I love your official door placard -- I'd like one for my home office. :) As you know, I basically blog/design full time, but not just for my own blog. Sorting out a balance has been tricky because I find myself working all the time. I think it's more important to find work/life balance first, then work/life/blogging balance second. After all, what's more important than your family? While I love seeing new posts from you, we can wait!

glad you are alive and back and employed! woot woot! It sucks thinking about how much time we spend at work (womp womp) but I use any downtime I have at the office to work on my blog...are you able to do that too?

Nice to see you back! I do enjoy your posts, so I'm glad your sacrificing your everything else time for blogging. I usually catch up at work(shhh)... Maybe you can do that too?

1.) I have two monitors at work, too, and I would die with only one.

2.) I'm having to re-work how I blog now that I've started grad school on top of working full-time. I try to schedule posts on weekends, and I write posts during my 30-minute lunch breaks.

3.) I love your pie chart. It's like you do design work or something... ;)

4.) Happy to "see" you again!

It's good to hear an update about what you're up to.

I don't mind when bloggers take long breaks (especially when they've got something big going on). I'd rather read infrequent posts that go into more detail than daily posts that don't really say anything (not that you ever did that, I was thinking in general terms!)

All that to say, I'll be sticking round :)

Loved seeing this post and "hearing" from you. Been missing your voice in my online world. I am totally in the same boat lately with my new job and the transition and everything. Plus starting Russian language class and doing my blog design class. Hard to even think about blog posts with all of that going on! Loved the pie chart. That is super cute. And I'm glad you've found a job you like. Glad you're still alive and doing well. Lots of love friend!!

You made a pie chart? This is why I love you. Now is that pie apple? Please say yes.

But seriously it's terribly difficult to manage a blog and a full time job. I have so many post ideas - but no time to ever put into them to make them come to life. Link ups help me keep the blog current - but I feel it's hard to maintain good active readership since I don't know how anyone can manage two e-mail accounts. Impossible.

Happy to see a post for you Katie Price.

It's so nice to get an update from you! We've been missing you for sure. Glad to hear things are good though. It's a hard balance between work and blogging, but you'll get there. For now, enjoy yourself and your new life!

Love the little update - and your office setup is not too bad! ;)

Managing full time work and blogging is not an easy task. I work 8 hours in a cubicle then go home and work again for my company. Blogging lately has slowed down a bit but I learn to just be ok with blogging a little less. I used to post twice and day so I brought it down to once a day. It's made a world of a difference and feel that my content is actually better now that I decreased my posting frequency - and there is less pressure. Hope this helps!!

Hi Miss Katie!! I'm so sorry I haven't been visiting often - I never saw this update and I feel like an a-hole, but I totally relate to this post! It's so hard to balance everything, especially when you're a perfectionist. I don't know how I get away with it with all my procrastination... actually I do, I have a ridiculously messy house and never cook ;) Anyway - I thoroughly enjoy reading your blog when I have the time to stop by, and I hope to see more of you in 2013! Cheers! xo
